That was my thought, too, when I first saw the new tabs. But now that I've been working with the program for a while, the new interface strikes me as more elegant.

My impression is that Adobe may be angling to go after the more mature -- dare I say professional photographer? -- crowd with this version. I have PS CS5 but, truth be told, the only two features that I use from it are a) Camera Raw processing of my JPEGS and b) Content-Aware Fill (in the rare case that that the Enhanced Spot Healing Brush is ineffective). For everything else that I do, even PSE7 had everything that I need.

The chief reason that I also acquired PSE9 is that, apart from the Enhanced Spot Healing Brush, it has a few additional Effects and Content. (Masking was already available in PSE7 via the adjustment layers.)
