Photo resizing

Postby clsb01 » Fri Apr 27, 2012 11:54 am

This may seem like a silly question but I have read that the phots should be resized to 1000 x 750 prior to using them in Premiere Elements. When I have tried to do this , I have ended up with parts of my photos only. If there is a single individual in the shot, I now have possible just part of an arm only after resizing. What am I doing wrong and how do I correct this ? Thanks for your help

Hi CLSB, Welcome to Muvipix where no question is a silly one ( and we sincerely mean that). :wcm:

It sounds like you are cropping the images instead of resizing them, you want to resize the image.
Do you have a photo editing program like Photoshop Elements? That would make this process a lot easier.

Also, the need to reduce photos had decreased some in version 10, I rarely reduce my photos anymore.
And if you are creating a high definition project the need to reduce the image size is even less and the size of the image can be much larger.

So this depends on a few things, let us know what you are doing as far as your overall project goes and if you have photo editing software. We will then be able to help you better.

Well, the other possibility is that, since the photos are 1000x750 and a video frame is 720x480, your photo is about a third larger than your video frame (assuming you've turned off Scale STills to Frame Size, as we recommend).

This is a good thing, as it gives you some room to pan and zoom around your photo if you want to do some Ken Burns-ing.

To make your photo the same size as your frame, right-click on the clip on your timeline and select Show Properties then, in the Properties panel, open up the Motion properties and set the Scale to 66%.

If you want to apply this to a whole bunch of photos, right-click on the first photo on your timeline that you've set this property to and select Copy -- then select the other photos on your timeline in one group and select Paste Attributes.

I am using Photoshop elements and was tring to process multiple files. The project is a number of still photos and video clips of my sons gymnastic meets. I am using Photoshop elements 7 and Premiere elements 9 - considering upgrading to elements 10 but since I started the project in Elements 9 and am 2/3 of the way complete ( with 1st draft of course), I am not sure if I want to consider trying to start again in Elements 10.

We do recommend finishing projects in the version that you created them, but you can keep both version 9 and 10 on your computer at the same time. I have the 4 previous versions on my computer without any issues.

Is there something about version 10 that interests you? If you can wait Adobe usually comes out with a new version every September or October, might be worth seeing what the next version will look like.

I think that I have found my problem. I am going to finish my project. When I finish, maybe I can post to the gallery. Will look forward to September for the next Premiere elements version release. I was looking for the pan and zoom feature on Elements 9 , I have not been successful using key framing to date.
