Many thanks Chuck and Cheryl for the explanations. I'm using SONY Movie Studio 13 Platinum Suite and am happy with that for my video editing but I have always been sort of curious about PhotoShop. So, correct me if I'm straying off here, it appears then that all I need to purchase is the PhotoShop Elements 14 program and since I already have SMS I don't really need the Premiere Elements with it. Strange that LightrRoom won't do layers (@ $143) but PS Elements (@ $80) will. I guess PS Elements then is a no-brainer for something to play around with like you've done with the posted photos here.

Chuck, What a great article that is and thank you very much for providing it for me. The information provided was extremely helpful and has answered many questions I have had for a long time now. One other quick question I have is, can PS Elements be used to remove backgrounds to make .png images , I guess kind of a substitute for a green screen effect?

Yes. Save the photo as a png. Then you can use a selection tool to select what to delete, or use it to select what to keep and then use Select > Inverse and then delete.

If you intend on using it for video, you would need to do it a frame at a time.

Thanks Peru
I think I'll place an order now :-)
DO you think 14 is really much better than 13 ?

I have Photoshop Elements 9 and 11. I usually use Photoshop CC. Maybe Steve can give a better answer.
In general, the latest versions have better support for new camera file formats (RAW especially).

When starting out I always recommend purchasing the most current version possible, for many reasons.
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

Love this Cheryl! Such a clever idea and extremely well executed! I saw this on your Flickr page and thought, "she oughta' post it on Muvipix - everyone would LOVE it" OOOOOps! I guess you already did. Since I don't have Photoshop i sort of forget to check those posts. Now I feel dumb...

But seriously, this is sooooo good. Not just the concept but the whole perfection of the lighting and everything!

i think you are following me on flickr. I checked and i'm following you...does that mean i get notifications when you add or it just shows me new stuff from you when i log in? not sure. if you check my photostream you'll see i haven't posted anything since Alaska - and that was just a quick video. I only posted a few things from Iceland...somehow I never get to posting on flickr, and if i do go out there, i usually don't log in so that may be why i don't know you have new stuff when it's posted.

I'll definitely make a point of checking your stuff more often - always something creative!! :TU:
