It has been found that some less than honest owners of volume licenses have been selling them (not legal to sell a volume license) and as Adobe finds these they are flagging the serial numbers.

Adobe realizes that many of the purchasers have been scammed and is not "holding a grudge."

wow, Thanks for tracking down these links, Peru. Right now I'm sitting by the phone, waiting for a call from the lawnmower folks. My baby mower will start now, it just doesn't like to run without the blade engaged. Guess somehow the recent repair didn't get fully resolved. I'll call Adobe later.

They may not be holding a grudge, but I think I am. I would have reported the seller to eBay and possibly have gotten a refund if Adobe had not verified that the software was legal back then.
