UTC stands for "Coordinated Universal Time". UTC is based on an atomic clock and is the international standard on which our civil time is based. "Universal Time" (UT), on the other hand, is based on the rotation of the Earth. Because the rotation of the Earth is not uniform, UTC and UT will differ. In order to keep the two values close together, leap seconds are added to UTC periodically to keep the values of UTC and UT within 0.9 seconds of each other. You may be familiar with the term Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). GMT originally referred to mean solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London. GMT has been officially replaced by UT. Commonly though, GMT is still being used as a synonym for UTC and UT even though that isn't strictly correct. And, just to confuse things, GMT is also used in the sense of a time zone, for example GMT and BST (British Summer Time) in the UK.

You can determine your local time by subtracting the time offset appropriate for your location from the UTC. For example, to convert to Pacific Standard Time you would subtract 8 hours. If you set up your time zone in your profile board preferences, the forum software will do the math for you.

And just in case you thought that all time zones incremented in one hour steps (either as +hours or -hours) relative to UTC:-

The difference is the time change. You can go in to your User Control Panel and chaange that setting.

And no to everyone. All good guesses, though! Don't give up!

Ok, here's my guesses, though I think this may have been there before...

When you click on the poster's avatar, it takes you to his/her profile page.

You can add them as a "friend" or a "foe"

I will mention that I have not had coffee and these may have been there from the beginning...

No to both ( I admit, it's a minor change, Paul, but not THAT minor  ). I AM glad that everyone is exploring though. There are too many features of this software to list & learn quickly.

OK, another hint : There's more to the forum software than meets the eye

Hadn't tried this before, but if I click on the title of each individual post, it takes that post to the top of the screen.
Don't have to scroll to the bottom of the page to read all the posts... read one click then on the title and it takes that one to the top... read that post click on the next title... takes it to the top

At the very bottom of each page it says "Powered by phpBB © 2000, 2002, 2005, 2007 phpBB Group ". What doesn't meet the eye is 2008! I am guessing that for all of 2008 Ron has been powering this site! :-5

When I receive an e-mail notification that a new post has been made, it includes the name of the person who made the post. Isn't that kinda like the caller ID you eluded to in a hint :?:

You nailed it, Cinde.

Persistence pays off!!

Congrats!

I modified the notification email to include the last author of the post. It not only should help you all with the mere curiosity of who first responded, but it (usually) will help me identify spammers right away.

Please send Steve a Personal Message (PM) with your address information and we'll get that autographed book out to you as soon as we can!
