Congratulations to each and all who entered our 2008 Muvipix Video Contest.

I don’t have to tell you how difficult it was for us to narrow our picks down to just a few winners. There was such a wealth of talent on display!

So, even if it wasn’t possible to award every entry, we certainly must acknowledge Cinde’s very clever “Family Reunion,” and amim8’s beautiful “Faithfully Yours,” the amazing photographic juggling of millerc2’s “Honeymoon Cruise” and his mouthwatering “Grandma’s Sauce”, the imaginative and cleverly executed “Teddy’s Gift”, the goofy fun of ksnielsen’s “Collap-so-gas 3000”, the slick pyrotechnics of “Bullitt”, the rousing “Champions”, Gooder’s fast-paced “Our Wedding Highlights” (which somehow manages to squeeze all the excitement and emotion of a huge family wedding into two very full minutes) and the sweet, warm sentiment of his “Summer Camp Song”, aroski’s very personal and deeply touching “Going Home” as well as his equally lively “Surfing08”, photoshopmagician’s very clever and well produced “Scoot to the Future”, Jim5k’s truly beautiful “Lapse of Time” and his delightful “50 Golden Years” and Beth’s amazingly professional-looking “30 sec ad” and “60 sec ad” and her equally well made “Wedding Ending” and “Wedding Recap”.

But a few truly distinguished themselves from the pack. And to those moviemakers, we tip our clapper.

My next post will explain how to claim your prizes.

Best in Show

"Apple Picking Story" by Maxine370 (Beth)
We never would have expected an afternoon spent picking apples could be so much fun!

People's Choice
"Hawkeye Heroes" by Rockdoc
Amazing photography and tight editing made this piece our most popular entry.

MiniMovie
"Night at the Roxy" by momoffduty
We loved the clever script for this one, and the animation is top notch!

Slideshow

"August 1981" Paul LS
Many great special effects and creative motion paths here, but what impressed us most was that, even with all that going on, the piece never loses track of the subject matter.

Commercial/Trailer
"Franklin Island" by anim8
This wonderful piece is not just a great commercial, it’s nearly a work of art!

Premiere Elements only

"Birthday Party" by millerc2
A great job of using motion backgrounds and Premiere Elements effects to make something so simple look so exciting.

Second Place
"Camera Club" by jim5k
The special effects in this piece are well executed, clever and often downright surprising.

Honorable Mention
"The Monitor" by WheatKing
A very clever combination of concept, special effects and execution!

Great work, everyone! The videos will be back on display in our Gallery soon.

I second that "how to", anim8. In fact, I think it would be great if everyone posted their techniques for their favorite effects or comments about their entry and it's evolution. Can we get a discussion going on that? Should it be a separate thread?

I think this would be an awesome idea if the winners had some time. For example in the apple picking video (at .58) I love how the two pictures come on the screen and then twirl away and back. I wouldn't know how to do that effect!

Hi,

Which video were you referring to, the slideshow or mini movie? I'm happy to share my techniques.

Not sure what happened to my earlier post, maybe in my excitement I forgot to hit submit....
anyways...

Thanks to everyone, I really am honored to win, especially amongst such talented people and fabulous entries. I can truly say every one gave me some inspiration or something to try out in my next video or slideshow. You are all artists and should all be proud.

Congratulations to all the other winners, too.

I'm very excited to choose After Effects. I've been coveting that program for a while. Thanks to the judges whose job was not easy at all. Thanks to Adobe for the great prizes which I'm sure pushed us just a drop more in our creativity. Thanks to all the Muvipix forum members who are always willing to share, inspire and are there to help.

I hear the music calling me off (I do feel like I'm making an acceptance speech) so I'll pass the baton to Jennifer...
Happy Editing,

Beth
