Having a problem with PE4

Postby lucky » Sun May 18, 2008 3:22 am

Hi i'm new here and desperate to solve a problem with premiere elements 4 and to learn as much as i can down the road

i have both photoshop elements 6 and premire elements 4
in stalled i have had photoshop for awhile now and it works great
i just bought premiere elements 4 last week and it seems ok except
for one thing when i try to burn a project to disk or to a hard drive folder
the program crashes instantly as soon as i select one of those options
so so far it's been pretty useless to me since i can't do anything
with any share options without the program shutting down on me.

To make a long story shorter i haven't been able to solve this issue
so i joined this forum hoping for a solution or suggestion
maybe i'm missing a step in the creation process or maybe the program is defective
at this point i'm just hoping i'm doing something wrong
i could sure use some advice.

Program shutting down when using the Share options indicates you need to update Quicktime.

Thanks it turns out thats exactly what i needed to do
downloaded last night and have since burned two DVD'S and they look great.

If it's ok i would like to ask two more quick questions right here off the top of my head

1. How can i delete a project from the program ?

2. I am wondering how to implement the picture in picture feature.

Of course there are many other questions but i prefer to ask one or two at a time.

Thanks for the help not knowing what to do was getting stressful
Now i am happy i bought this program.

Hello Lucky,

To delete a project you can do the following :)

If you have created your project in it's own folder such as (Lucky's Birthday) then just deleting this folder will delete the entire project!
if you did not create (Lucky's Birthday) in it's own folder then you will have a few folders located here:
My Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/1.0/

Please note: I am using Premiere Elements 1 but it should be the same for version 4!

The files you can delete (warning) once deleted they are gone!
Delete the following folders to remove your project!

My Documents\Adobe\Premiere Elements\1.0\
Folder Name: captured video, prreview files, conformed audio files, and auto save.
Anything related to the name of your project can be deleted!

If I have missed anything then someone will be along shortly to fill in the blanks! :)

Hope it helps,
Cheers.

To create a new project in it's own folder you can try this :)

When you select "New project from Premiere Elements" you will see this:
C:\Documents and Settings\my documents\Adobe\Premiere Elements\1.0\

You can then add the name of your folder to the end of the above line, like this!
C:\Documents and Settings\my documents\Adobe\Premiere Elements\1.0\lucky

Windows will ask if you would like to create the folder, sinply select yes!
From now on all of your project files will be saved in this new folder "lucky"
Once you are finished and wish to delete this new project you can just delete the entire folder!

You can also, create a folder by going in to ( C:\Documents and Settings\my documents\Adobe\Premiere Elements\1.0\ )
and just create your folder there, you can then browse for that folder when you creat a new project!

Cheers, :)

Thanks that answered my question

Now i'm wondering about picture in picture feature and the
time stretch feature
and how to mute the original audio in a video clip.

I don't mean to be a pain but i am very eager to learn this incredible program
i have tried other programs like it but so far this seems like the best to me.

Thanks again for the help...

You are very wlcome and we do not think of anyone as being a pain, but I know what you mean, Lucky! :)

The PIP effect can be done like this:

1, Place a clip on video track 1 (this is the lowest video track)
2, Place another clip on video track 2, (this is your picture in picture clip)
Please note: that your (picture in picture clip should be above video track 1)

3, Drag the desired PIP Effect on to your clip which should be on video track 2
4, You can then further adjust the PIP Effect by selecting the clip which has the PIP effect on (video track 2) and then
going to the properties panel. Click on the small triangle near the Motion property which is in the Properties panel.

Cheers, :)

To do the Time Stretch Feature:

1, Right click on your clip and then select "Time Stretch"
2, You can drag the percentage or enter a value in to the box
3, if you wish you can also tick the box "Maintain Audio Pitch"

Another way is to use the "Time Stretch Tool":

1, Select the time stretch tool and move your mouse pointer over the edge of your video clip.
2, Click the outer edge (the left edge of your clip or the right edge)
3, If you drag your clip to the left you willl increase the speed of your clip and drag to the right will slow your clip down

Your audio will also be changed (time stretched) so you may wish to use the feature "unlink audio & video".
Right click on your clip and select from the window "unlink audio & video".
You can now select your video clip and use the time stretch without changing your audio!

Cheers, :)

I am not using version 4 and I can't remember if they ever implemented that mute feature.

Anyway, you can try the following:
1, if you are not using the audio part of the clip you can right click it and un-select the enable!
This will grey out the audio part of your clip and will not be heard!

2, You can also drag the yellow audio level bar (which is on the audio part of your clip) to the bottom and that will mute your clip!

There are a few other ways to perfrom this but that should get you well on your way!

Cheers,
