Combine VOB files using Command Prompt

Discussions concerning Premiere Elements version 1 - 4.

Typed in d: (instead of "d:")
Followed all instuctions (as per #p20584) and all went OK until error message: Access denied 0 file(s) copied.

Tried to do various permutations (as per #p406720 but can't find the right path)
My paths seem to be:-
C: - Documents and Settings

Then either of the following 3 folders:-
1) All Users
2) New Name
3) Owner

Most things seem to be going through the Owner folder route.
Am running on XP.

Attempting to combine AVI files, not VOB, but figure it should still be the same basic principle. However, after the "copy," windows recognizes the file size properly, but windows media player only plays the first file of the lot.

Hi, JL. Welcome to Muvipix!

I don't know that this same trick will work with AVI files. However, you can easily combine AVI files in a Premiere Elements or Windows MovieMaker project and output a single AVI from that, if that's your goal.

Which program you use depends on where these AVIs originated. What type of camera or camcorder did this video come from and how did you get it into your computer?

Here's a free app I just found that will join avi files without recompression as long as they have the same codec, framerate, dimensions, etc..

Thanks, had never even used moviemaker before, worked great.

The original vids came from a samsung SL202, transferred directly off the card.

Welcome to Muvipix, JL.

AVI, and most video formats, cannot combine files that way. Because there are various internal data headers that define the structure and length of the video and audio in each file, they need to be joined using a program that can rebuild the data headers for the combined file.

The VOB files this topic thread is addressing are a special case. Those VOB files were created as part of a DVD and are actually a single file that has been chopped without modification into a number of parts. When concatenated, everything matches up perfectly.
