16:9 slideshow to 4:3

Postby bassgreg » Mon Mar 12, 2007 1:47 pm

Ok, so I finished my daughters Swim team slide show. It was a big hit! Thanks from all the tips and stuff I found here! I did the project all in a 16:9 format because that is what my HDTV is, and I figure most people are slowly converting to this format. But I have had one Parent that still has a 4:3 format TV. Is there a quick way to convert this to 4:3 or would I have to go back and recreate the slideshow as a 4:3 format?

Thanks,
Greg

They can still watch the DVD on a 4:3 television, the DVD player will letterbox the output is all.

So I hooked up a dvd player to our Kitchen Tv/Vcr to make sure it would play in the letterbox format, but it still played full size cutting off some of the images on the side. Did I maybe miss a setting?

Thanks,

Greg

There should be a a way to change that in the DVD setup menu, you should be able to switch the display to letterbox.

Ok I will look at that tonight! I just thought I would check to see if there was something I might have missed in the burn process.

Thanks,

Greg

Yes, you should be able to set up your DVD player to show 16:9 on a 4:3 screen. This is actually fairly common, as lots of the commercial movie DVDs are widescreen. Nothing new here.

In my case, I have decided to do all new DVDs in widescreen, regardless of what my kids have. Of course, that means Dad will probably be upgrading their TVs one of these days
