Lost my forum placemarks

Postby Bobby » Tue Aug 28, 2007 6:37 pm

Hi. I have unfortunately been off for about a month - haven't moved, just a lot of local and family things going on, including running for Town Council.

But when I came back tonight, all my forum placemarks (what do you call them) are gone. No fora or entries are highlighted as new.

What did I do to delete the info - where is it stored - cookies, etc?

Thanks, Bob

Bob, that happened to me once. I believe it happened because I had just cleaned out the temporary internet files and folders and cookies.

Yeah, I am sure I did that because I do it regularly.

Perhaps a list of what not to delete might help.

I suppose Ron would know for sure. But doing a search in the hidden Cookies folder for any files with "muvipix" in the name reveals there are some files such as bob@muvipix[1].txt. and bob@www.muvipix[2].txt Then in the hidden \Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files folder there are a couple of files with "muvipix" in the name such as cookie:bob@muvipix.com/ and cookie:bob@www.muvipix.com/

I do know that once you visit the site the flags are all removed as far as unread posts go. So even if you just pop in for a second and see a dozen new items, if you don't read them right then when you come back you won't see them marked as unread or new anymore.

Ron is busy searching for new software that will not remove the flag until you have actually read the new posts, similar to the Adobe forum. I hope he finds something that will work like that. Until then this is still a pretty good package in general, and nothing is perfect anyway.
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.
