Special Effects download file corrupt

Postby bbooks » Mon Apr 30, 2007 8:55 am

I've downloaded the free Special Effects zip file. It downloads just fine, but when I try to open it, I get a message that says it is damaged or corrupt. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Sue

Hi, Sue. We collected those files from a variety of places, so not all of them are DV-AVIs. I think some of those are actually Divx-AVIs.

If that's the case, you can download video processor VirtualDub (free at http://www.virtualdub.org). If it will open it, you can do a Save As and this new AVI should work in Premiere Elements.

Just re-read your post, Sue.

Are you saying that the Zip file wouldn't open?

Have you tried right-clicking on it and choosing the Extract option? This will unpack the Zip file and should give you a set of several usable AVIs.

That's one of the larger files that we have for download (100MB) and depending on what time you download it here at the current server (in process of transitioning servers), I don't doubt that the file is corrupted.

The file, coincidently, is being transferred to the new server as I write this. You can download it at its new home before days end.

As soon as it's ready, I'll post the link.

Here's just a sample 15MB file that you can test the new server speed for yourself -

Double-clicking gets the error message. Right click, extract all tells me that their are no files to extract. I downloaded this several days ago. I will wait until it's up on the new server and try again.

Thanks guys,
Sue

The new server is blistering! I had been avoiding the special_effects.zip because of the slow speeds, but I just hit 825 KB/s on the new rig! Less than 2 minutes for 98.1 MB is just amazing...
