How do you make an Avitar?

I tried resizing a picture but I couldn't get it smaller that 100x100 which is too big.

It needs to be 80x80 per Ron instructions.

How can I make an Avitar?

I made my Avitar from my 'logo' I use in my intros. to my holiday videos.
All I did was transfer the image to Photoshop Elements (v.3) and keep reducing the image size until I got it to 100 pixels across.
Then I saved it to 'My Documents' ready for transferring to Muvipix.

In Photoshop Elements crop the image square. Don't worry about the size right now. Then just use "Save For Web" and select the PNG-24 file type preset. Under Image Size use the New Size and put in your 80 x 80 pixels. That's all there is to it. Instant Avatar.

Thanks for the detailed instructions but I can not get the required size.

I cropped the picture to 1in x 1in
The I Saved for Web.
PNG-24 with transparency checked.
I drop down to New Size and type 80 and 80.(I tried it both way with Constrain Properties checked and unchecked. I don't know what that means anyway.)
Then I click OK.
And then I Save in.
Done.

But the picture has not gone below 11Kb.

Too big.

I don't know what to do.

I think the problem is that I told you the wrong PNG. Use PNG-8 instead of PNG-24. But I would start over with your original graphics file, not the one that you resized. When you have the picture cropped square, go ahead and use the Save For Web as previously described. When you're in the Save For Web dialog box if you look at the information below the two comparison pictures (before and after) it will tell you what the size of the file will be when you're finished. Compare the PNG-8 to the PNG-24 and you'll find that the PNG-8 will be a lot smaller. Remember that avatars are not exactly high resolution images. My apologies for the mistake. BTW, the Constrain Proportions simply forces the height to width ratio to remain the same, so you don't end up distorting your picture in either the vertical or horizontal direction. That' s what the chain link means connecting the vertical and horizontal sizes.

Richard, I increased the maximum size for avatars to 20K. Go ahead and use what you had at 11K. In this day and age, 20K is really not that large anymore
