Muvipix downloads: Glitches in all vbme files

Postby Rocco » Wed Feb 22, 2017 1:47 pm

Hi Y'all. I'm a new subscriber and am impressed by the resources here. Thank you! ::CLAP:

I used the wee hours to minimize network congestion a few nights ago to download a number of subscriber downloads to use in Prel15.

I unzipped all.

All work well -- except: :conf: any (all) filenames that begin with "vbme". These are the files found under "Motion Elements"

These -- every one -- freeze when I play them. The Playhead continues to move smoothly, but the picture either freezes completely or stutter freezes and picks up later on the time line as the Playhead moves along.

Note - these vbme files also image-freeze when played in VLC media player - or show a black screen. The player continues along the timeline.

Also odd: Windows (7) Properties for these files show Data and Bit rates, but the Frame width, height and rate are blank.
However, inside the Prel15 program itself, properties (right-click dialog box) includes all of this information.

BTW - I tried re-downloading several of the vbme files hoping for a better result - it did not help.

None of the other download files have this problem - e.g. filenames that start with "hd" from the Motion Backgrounds group of downloads.
Note: all these other files show proper file information in Windows Properties - no missing info as with the "vbme" files.

Can you help? Am I missing a codec?

Other info: I also encountered intermittent problems with files that start with "tvbhd" - but the playback behavior was different. The file would stutter (both in Prel15 and VLC) - but each stutter moved the MCE back a little as if it was trying to replay over a glitch. It has stopped doing that, but I have no idea why.

If it helps, my machine stats are: Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Xeon E3-127Ov2 @3.50GHz processor, lntel DZ77RE-75K MB, 16 GB ram

Thanks

Name one of the files. I will download and extract it and see if I get the same results.

Our music and video files don't use any non-standard codecs. The VBME series of videos are, I believe, plain old MOV files. (Although some use the Quicktime JPEG codec.) If you've got Quicktime installed on your computer, you should have no problems playing them.

Ron or Chuck may know more specifics about these files.

Hi Rocco, Welcome to Muvipix :meet:

I am not aware of any files in the download section with an extension of vbme or tvbhd, can you please let us know which files these, exact name of the file and anything else you can tell us. All of our files should be standard format video files, MOV, MP4, MPEG, etc.

Ron, any idea what might have been downloaded?

vmbe isn't the file extension, Chuck. It's the prefix on the file name -- as in VBME0535.zip, the Compact Disk Motion Element.

In that case Rocco we would need to know your computer graphics card specs please. These are all high definition files and there are minimum requirements for playing them smoothly.

As well as the graphic card specs can you tell us if you are currently editing HD video in your projects and if you are having any issues playing those clips. We have had no complaints about our motion elements or HD backgrounds having any problems prior to this so we need to have as much detail as possible about your projects, source material, computer specs, etc. to try and figure out what is causing this.

I am assuming that you unzipped the files before using them?

Hi. Back online for a little bit...

I will post the graphics card info in the next post. But before I do, let me show you an oddity with these files.

Win7 is not recognizing them properly. (all your other download files are recognized properly)

The oddity is that this is true for ALL and ONLY files that start with vbme. (Yes, I've tried redownloading -- I've even tried launching them from different drives on my computer.)

Here are screen shots of Win7 properties (for example) for the file vbme0015.mov

https://www.dropbox.com/s/3rhfhfk120lrr ... s.png?dl=0

https://www.dropbox.com/s/bp9uhfp14ador ... s.png?dl=0

Note the missing Frame width, height and rate info. This info is included in Win7 Properties for all your other download files.

Here is a screenshot of the same file from within Prel15:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/1hwwhcn9v6zw8 ... 5.png?dl=0

All info is included as expected.

The Windows properties for the files don't really tell us anything relevant.

As I said above, if you'll give us the name of one of the files that's giving you trouble, I can crack it open and see what's inside.

Obviously, your computer has plenty of power. But meantime, to confirm, you DO have Quicktime 7 installed on your computer, right?

The vbme files are quicktime "mov" files using the jpeg2000 codec. This is very compute intensive codec. Your playback stutters and freezes because the cpu cannot decode the frames fast enough to be able to play back the video in real time. The result is skipped frames, stutters, or freezes when played. There is nothing wrong with the file. When you export the finished video, it should playback smoothly. To improve playback (preview) while editing in Premiere Elements, render the video by pressing Enter. You may need to turn off hardware acceleration.

Adobe Premiere Elements is designed to take advantage of display cards with accelerated GPUs. If you are having playback issues, then make sure that you use the Desktop Display Mode that best corresponds with capabilities of your display card.

Compatible: This setting offers the lowest performance but is appropriate for display cards that do not fully support Direct 3D.
Standard: The default setting and appropriate for most video cards on the market today.
Accelerated GPU Effects: The highest performance setting. Only available if you have a GPU-accelerated display card.
To change the Desktop Display Mode in Premiere Elements, do the following:

Choose Edit > Preferences > General.
Click Playback Settings.
Select the appropriate Desktop Display Mode and click OK.
Click OK to close the Project Settings window.
