Loading AVCHD files

Postby Cope This 719 » Thu Sep 01, 2011 6:01 am

I am having a few problems, the main one is this.

My new computer will not load files from my Canon HF S 21 (AVCHD) I keep getting the error message below

"Adobe Premier Elements cannot obtain all the files from this device.
Please ensure that the device is connected properly or that the battery is charged.
Files already copied to the hard drive will be available at I\ PERTH31092011"

So far I have transferred all of the files from my Canon HFs 21 ( some 220 files running about 1 hr 15 mins) to my old computer running Vista successfully, however I get the above error message when I connect my camera to my new Windows 7. Professional. My new machine is an Intel core i7 with 16GB of ram and an Asrock z68 Extreme 4. My old computer is a core 2 with 4 GB ram.

I have never filled the cameras memory. In fact it has never been more that half full, and when I do initialise the camera I use the facility in the camera
Can anyone help?
Regards John

First, do you have more than one hard drive on your computer -- or are you trying to load this video to your C drive? If you have more than one hard drive, have you ensured that your second or external drive is formatted NTFS and not FAT32 (as drives come from the factory)? What is that "I" drive you refer to?

And can you be more specific about what you ARE doing?

1) Make sure your camcorder is plugged into AC. Some cams won't transfer video if they're operating on battery.
2) Have you ensured that the video you've shot has been shot only in FXP or MXP mode?
3) When you started your Premiere Elements project, did you ensure that it was set up for Full AVCHD 1920x1080 and with the appropriate audio mode? (Your cam shoots in stereo and 5.1 audio.)
4) Finally, did you use Get Media/From AVCHD Or Other Hard Drive Camcorder to download the video from the camcorder to your computer?

Today a friend came around with his portable We hooked up my camera and down loaded some files. They absolutely flew. I then hooked up my Windows 7 machine and the incredible slowness returned. Here are the steps I took,

Connect camera *Canon hfs 21 (avchd)" via a USB cable. The transfer screen "Creating Thumbnails "
In the "Organise "Screen selected Get Media AVCHD and selected a file that is 16.5 mb This was at 3:15 PM

Information from Windows Task Manager indicated the following CPU 1 or 2 %, Memory 2.89 GB, Cached 5655, Available 13139, Free 7664.

There was no movement on the Windows Task Manager although the transfer light on the camera was flasshing.
Waited 15 mins but there was nothing t/f.

There was mains power to the camera. The setting was MPX, 1920x 1080. I have 2 external frived and all are NTSF

Any help appreciated
John

Can you see the files on the camera using Windows Explorer? If the answer is yes, using Windows Explorer, can you copy them from the camera to a folder on your computer?

I always do it the way Bob suggests... a no hassle easy way. Especially as I do not use the Adobe Organizer for archiving my clips.

Yesterday I got together with a friend and we compared Elements 7 on both machines. His really flew. I rang the dealer that I bought the PC from. He asked me to drop in the Camera and PC. This AM I was on his door step just after opening. We put the camera and PC together. The dealer asked me to call back in 2 hours.

When I called back the computer was O.K.

He had found that there was a strange icon in the System Tray. This program has caused the USB to create a bottneck. The strange part was that this program was on the ASrock Utility disk.

I can now go back to importing AVCHD files from my Canon into my PC.

I would like to thank everyone for their help .
