Download PRE703 Patch to my XP Machines?

Postby George Tyndall » Fri Jan 14, 2011 10:20 am

My habit, learned the hard way, is to not make ANY changes to my XP machines when everything seems to be working well.

This habit has become more ingrained than ever for the following reason: The System Restore function has repeatedly failed me, i.e., been unable to restore my system to an earlier restore point.

Problem: Just now, when I attempted to open PRE7, I was informed that I MUST download and install the 703 patch on my XP machine.

Question: Has anyone incurred any problems as a result of installing this patch and, if so, is there a way to use the program without performing the installation?

I used to have the same philosophy George until about 2 years ago. I now do ALL updates and have never had any problems that have not been easily resolved. I absolutely always do Adobe and Microsoft updates as well as check for driver and firmware updates on a regular basis. I have found that this solves more problems than it creates ;)

I agree with Chuck 100%. I always take the updates and I have never had a problem.

After posting, I noted that that I was unable to "Make Available Offline" in PRE7 some of the media on photoshop.com.

As I had just recenlty made a mirror image of my C Drive with Acronis TIH 11, I went ahead with the download and installation of the patch and -- Eureka! -- I was immediately able to make them available.

So far, everything else appears to be working perfectly as if nothing adverse has happened.

BTW, I was far less paranoid about downloading and installing updates in the past, when System Restore was working perfectly.

Now, I have to rely on TIH 11 backups, and because I only do the full versions, a LOT more time is involved.

In any case, thanks to all for the advice.
