1. Make sure you have the most current firmware for your DVD burner.
2. You are using good blank DVD media like Verbatim or other quality discs.

I've personally had problems with some discs that I could only attribute to the fact that I was completely filling the disc. I think that as the burner reaches the outer edge of the disc it seems to have more trouble getting a reliable data burn, or maybe it's trouble reading the data from the outer edge. I really don't know. Using Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden I virtually never have any problems with discs that are less than filled. But once I reach that point where I'm using all of the disc, the reliability of the burn seems to drop significantly. I nearly lost a client's iTunes backup this way one time. I was only able to recover it by trying the disc in different drives until I finally found one that was able to read it.

The best way to ensure a reliable burn to DVD is to export the finished project as a single AVI file then create a new project with that file on the timeline. You now have a perfectly rendered, gap-free, clean and tidy file to burn onto disk. I'm sure Steve had this in a tutorial way back.

That's a good tip, Dave! I wasn't aware you could "overfill" a disc!
