Required Codec not installed

Postby Cope This 719 » Sun Nov 07, 2010 1:20 am

I have been getting a "Generic Failure Error"
"This type of file is not supported, or the required is not installed."

This has been happening after I have selected a generic icon and it asks me where is file xxx. I have located the file only to have this error message appear.

Any help most appreciated.

My system is running Vista and has Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3GHb, 4Gb Ram and a Nvida Ge Force 8600 GT

Hi John. Try downloading the K-Lite codec pack. If still a problem can you post with more details of the file type?

No luck with the extra codec or perhaps I didn't down load the correct option (there were quite a few ) However the file type is MTS

Try dragging the media to the project media panel from windows explorer.
Sometimes the Add Media function goes a little wacky.
Just locate the file in Windows Explorer, then drag and drop to the Project Media Panel, not the Organizer.

What type of camcorder did this video come from and how did you get it into your computer? It may not be a format Premiere Elements can edit natively (particularly if it was, say, downloaded from the internet or copied from a DVR, etc.).

That camcorder has a variety of video quality settings. Have you ensured you're using only the FXP or MXP mode?

And then have you selected the AVCHD 1920x1080 setting when you created your project? Did you use Premiere Elements' Get Media/from AVCHD camcorder function to get the video from the camcorder to your hard drive and into your project?

Finally, have you ensured you have the latest version of Quicktime installed on your computer?
