Hi Guys.
I have started a new Thread so hope that is the correct thing to do.
With reference to my last thread where I was having trouble with my new computer.
As I said, they found the trouble was the Graphic Card.
They have put in a new one but a different brand, which they didn't tell me.
Could anyone out there please let me know if I have a good card or not.
The old one was Nvidia GeForce GT240, 1Gb. It looks like this card has DDR3 Memory.
The new one is an ATI Radeon HD5500, 1Gb. It looks like this card has DDR2 Memory. Does this make a difference?
Is this new one any good?

The GF240 is a better card. I just bought one a week ago and it's in the computer I'm on right now. I'm going to put it into my Core i7 860 editing machine. I just have it in this Internet computer to check it out. The HD 5500 is not a bad card, it's just a step down from the one you had. Plus, Nvidia (GF cards) have what's called Cuda which will give a boost to cpu intense operations such as video rendering when they start writing editing programs to take advantage of that. Some already do. As long as it works I guess it's okay, but you have a top of the line system and the video card is an important component in that system so it's your call.

One more thing, my GF240 has DDR5 memory. DDR2 is one speed, DDR3 is faster and DDR5 is the fastest of the three. So DDR2 is slower than DDR3.

An update on the thread is this.
I have just checked the book and discovered the Video Card is HD5570 1Gb with DDR3 memory.
Having said this, is this a good card?

Hi, they seem to have done a reasonable swap, I did a search comparing the cards and they seem to have equal performance. In fact one site stated when refering to the HD5570, "The closest competitor from NVIDIA is GeForce GT 240".

The only thing is if you prefer the ATI or Nvidia series. Personally I use ATI cards, because I always have, and have had no problems. Other folks no doubt prefer the Nvidia range of graphics cards.

I like the nVidia Quadro cards but they are quite expensive. Most of my PCs these days have ATI cards and I have been very happy with them

My other half searched the Internet yesterday looking for answers on the video cards, but couldn't find much. I just thought that in PE7, the HD pics didn't seem quite as sharp as the Nvidia card, but it may have been my imagination. I'm going to give it a good try out over the next day or two, and compare some pics on my Hubby's computer which is still running the Nvidia card, jusy to see if there is a difference.
My Hubby is having trouble with his new computer also. It doesn't seem to matter what program he is in, all of a sudden the screen goes back to the desktop. When he moves the mouse, it comes back. Yesterday he was working in MS Publisher and Excel, and it happened 7 times in an hour or so.
Any suggestions on this one???

Could easily be the same or similar problem with the graphics card.

This may sound strange, but I've just got to ask...

Is it a Windows 7 system? Is he aware of the "Show Desktop" area in the bottom right corner of the screen? Moving the mouse over that area will cause the desktop to show, and moving the mouse off of it again will return to the program you were working in. I sometimes have it happen by chance. Just a thought.

I think you may be right.
Yes it is a Win 7 machine, and no I didn't know about the "Show Desktop" section at the bottom right of the screen. I have just found it and tried it out. Voila, it worked. I have a habit of moving the cursor quickly out of the way, as I can not stand it in the line of type as I am typing. It seems to get in the way all the time. So that's probably what I have done and didn't realize it. Being used to Win. XP.
