ERROR MESSAGE

Postby Cope This 719 » Sun Apr 25, 2010 12:02 am

I know that this may not be the place to ask this question but I am desperate.

I have just bought a new Canon HF S21 I am running Vista with 4 gig of Ram.

Whenever I turn off the camera I get a quick error message

"TASK IN PROGRESS DO NOT DISCONNECT THE POWER SOURCE"

This stays on the camera's screen for less than a second. I was under the impression that this message would only appear if you turned off the camera while the ACCESS light was on or flashing.

Has anyone had this happen to them or does anyone know how to fix it

Thanking you all in anticipation
John

I once blew the port on my camera by connecting and disconnecting without turning it off. Lesson learned - I now always turn the camera off before either connecting or disconnecting it (USB or Firewire) to the PC.

I do not have that particular camera nor do I use Vista so all I can suggest is that because there is an electrical connection this is simply a warning message. Once the power connection is shut down everything is OK. My guess is that it is something similar to the 'Safely Remove Hardware' function. No doubt others will chime in if I am off beam with this.......

I think you're right, John. That Canon connects via USB, so I'd recommend right-clicking on the icon on your Windows Task Bar and selecting the option to Safely Remove Hardware before disconnecting.
