EDITING AVCHD

Specific to Premiere Elements Version 7.

EDITING AVCHD

Postby Cope This 719 » Thu Apr 08, 2010 6:18 am

I am contemplating buying a Canon HF S21 I did have a HV30 but that has "Gone To God" I keep hearing the editing is much easier on Mini Tape than AVCHD. I have a vista Intel Core 2 machine with 4 gig of Ram. In the past I have used Adobe Premier Elements 7 and finD it very good. Will the new AVCHD camera cause me grief.

Any help most appreciated John

Well, nobody can guarantee any manufacturer's product except the manufacturer itself.

But the Canon HDV and AVCHD camcorders are some of the most widely used and reliable hi-def products on the market. I'm surprised your HV30 died. Canon usually makes a darn good camcorder!

Now I have a related question - I have a Sony where the files are AVCHD and they are supposedly hard to work with. I thought AVCHD was proprietary to Sony? Does the editing of the Canon AVCHD have the same problems as Sony's? Are the resulting 1920 x 1080i / 264, are the .mts files as well? And the raw ones are .m2ts? Thanks.

AVCHD is a standardized format, Chancy. It doesn't belong to one manufacturer or brand.

So if you can edit AVCHD, you edit AVCHD, no matter which camcorder it came from.
