I am a beginner and have been using Premiere 7 for a couple of months. Some of these type of books can be difficult to understand.

Obviously, I am interested in something that is easy to understand. Is the book for a beginner?

It is for beginner to intermediate and covers many tasks that have not changed since version 2.
Keyframing is still identical as are many other tasks. The two books together make a great team, you can ask many of the members here

I have a large collection of Super 8 (Film) movies that were converted to Mini DV recently. I converted it from Mini DV (digital) to 720x480 .AVI format.

Do you have any suggestions or ideas?

The movies will be burned to a DVD and the highest quality is important.

When you say "converted to AVI" do you mean that you captured them into your computer over FireWire? If so, that's a good thing.

There are many types of AVI (including Divx and Xvid). And not all will work well in Premiere Elements. The "right" AVIs should be rather large: about 13 gigs per hour of video.

But I hope, if you're going to all the trouble of loading these files into Premiere Elements, you plan to do some interesting post production work on them rather than just output a DVD. If you're looking to just capture video and output discs, there are cheaper and more efficient ways to do it.

CinePost created the film transfer via expensive professional equipment. CinePost did the project on Mini DV tapes.

stevek, have a suggestion for a project. I recently converted old tapes for a friend onto DVDs in date order and combined tapes of the same event onto a DVD. Before deleting the projects, I saved short 4 min clips, exported as AVIs to separate folder and numbered each clip by date/project #...so the clips would appear in order. About 3 to 5 clips per project. I then used those clips for a highlight video set to music, about 3 songs long. It was of her daughter's first year. By saving the clips as I went along, it was very easy to make the highlight video. Only used about 20 to 25 secs of each clip, but having the clips at least 4 min long to start gave me handles to work with.

Steve's book and the Snap book are must reads. Very easy to follow and can jump ahead to do accomplish a specific task. Great index too.
