WMV settings in Pro

Postby momoffduty » Sat Mar 07, 2009 5:21 pm

Posted the question on another thread, but adding it here. In Pro the default wmv is 320x240...now if I want to change it to 640x480 the exported file does not look good. Think I need to change the options. In PrEl when I change the export WxH the average video bitrate is 448 and in Pro the average video bitrate is 200 when selecting the NTCS to Source to Download 256kbps (the default wmv export). If I select NTSC Source to Download 512kbps the average video bitrate is around 400.

Not sure if selecting another wmv preset is the solution or if there are other settings I need to look at. Here are the preset options:

Why not start with a preset and then go in and increase the bit rate and set the frame size to achieve the quality you want. You can then save the preset for future use.

Thanks Paul figured it out and good idea on saving the preset. Found an article & a forum post. The article explains that the lower average video bitrate throws away pixels, so higher bitrate is more pixels is larger file. Think you would have to watch the file sizes.

The article does a better job explaining than my attempt:

No need to apologize ( I deleted my lame attempt at a joke). It is hard to change settings when you don't know the cause and effect. Paul's post helped and confirmed that I was on the right track. Thanks!

Most of my exports are H.264. Any recommendations on the FLV settings? Thanks.

I've just finished some VHS conversions of a seminar that are going to be presented over the internet.
They needed either FLV or H.264

For FLV I used the NTSC Flash Video 8 700k preset to start with (this is Premiere Elements)
I then changed the Bitrate to 1600 and under Advanced Settings changed the Quality to Best.
They required the ON2 VP6 Codec, so I had to change it from Sorenson Spark.
Left it at One Pass CBR, this came out very nice, almost as good as the H.264 export.

My H.264 is set; Quality 100, changed the Aspect Ratio to D1/DV NTSC (0.9), Bitrate is 1600 (Premiere Elements also).

Both of these produce some pretty good looking footage at 640 x 480.
