Anyone have luck importing from PREL4 to CS3-PremPro

Postby tjodork » Fri Oct 17, 2008 12:14 pm

I created a slideshow in PSE6
sent to PremElem 4.
separated each item and then saved.
I then opened PremPro(CS3) and tried to open... it recognized it as PremElem and said it would need to convert.
Then I got an error msg "it may be damaged or contain outdated elements"

Anyone have any tips (besides what a dumb workflow ) :)

Have you used Share/Personal Computer/DV-AVI as the output?

Premiere CS should easily read that output.

Sounds like you are trying to open the Premiere Elements project file, .prel

As Steve says, you need to export the project as an AVI file and then open that in Premiere Pro.
You cannot share project files between the two and they can't open each others project files.

You should still be able to use the main menu, File/Export/Movie :)

Actually, I have opened PrEl 4 project files in Pro CS3. They were files created originally from PrEl 4, but they converted just fine. Perhaps there is something funky with the process because the project started in Photoshop Elements?

Beth would probably have more insight than I do, but I believe she is the one who told me that the .prel files could be opened in CS3. :-k

Thanks All,
Jennifer its good to hear that it could work... you could be right about not liking it starting from PSE6.

I routinely open old Premiere Elements 3.0 projects in PPro CS3 for touch-ups... you just can't take them back to Elements once you do that. I don't know about Elements 4.0; I don't use it because I just can't get used to the interface.

As a test, I Imported a PE4 PREL into CS2 Pro. Everything came in, except for some of the Titles. I'll look more closely at those Titles and see what might be the problem there. It *seemed* that some of the Titles came in fine.

The offending Title was a test of "Text on a Path." Not sure why it did not translate to Pro CS2.

Up until now I had V2 and Pro CS3. COuld always open PreEL files in Pro and it actually creates a new file in the Pro format. NOt sure about later versions but it should work the same way. Make sure you click on Sequence 01 to see your timeline as created in PrEL.
Happy Editing,

Beth
