Using Streamclip to deal with audio import problems

Postby fabulousyellow » Sun Jul 06, 2008 10:39 pm

Hi,

I uploaded some video to my computer(Windows XP) from a Sony Handycam HDD camera using the Sony software that came with the camera. The video files play fine in Windows Media Player -- so I didn't think there was anything strange about them. However, upon trying to import them into Adobe Premiere Pro I found that only the video was imported -- NO audio track!

I've spent some time looking for an answer on forums, and from what I can tell it has something to do with the way that Sony encodes the mpg. I downloaded Streamclip 1.1 and tried converting the file to mpeg with MP2 audio. This seemed to work for about a second, as the icon changed in Adobe Premiere to show that the audio track was now present --- and then it promptly caused an error and shut AP down. I've tried reopening it several times, to no avail. AP does not like that file. So that's not the solution.

Is there another way to convert the files? Do I even need to convert them?

I also tried renaming them, but that only gave them a double extension when I imported them (e.g. joe.avi.mpg)

Any solutions out there?

Thanks in advance!

seemed to find an answer and thought I would post for others who might have the same issue:

copy the ad2ac3dec.dll from the Encore CS3 directory to PP CS3 root directory

Did this, deleted all clips, and re-imported -- and Voila! audio tracks!

Sounds like an AC3 codec issue with the MPEG file. Seems you found the solution.

Welcome to the forum. :)
