Which Premiere Elements files can Premiere Pro open?

Postby _Paz_ » Wed Mar 05, 2014 10:53 am

I know Premiere Elements prel files cannot be opened with Premiere Pro, but I thought there was a way to save Premiere Elements files in a format that Premiere Pro could open. I think I saved to disc in MP4 h264 30, which is really 29.97. I thought P Pro would open this but it doesn't appear to see it.

I've finally gotten a lead in that I like well enough to use that I've edited in Premiere Elements. I'd like to be able to put it at the beginning of my lessons regardless of which of the programs I use to edit the remainder of the lesson.

I'm filming HVCHD at 1920x1080p, 59.something frames per second. For YouTube those files seem to be converted to 29.97 and for YouTube that is fine. I'd like to keep the .59 on my files on disc in case I want to burn them to a DVD later.

:conf: again,

Paz

Hi Paz,
You should be able to add the files to a Premiere Pro project as an asset but you have to create a project first.
Is that what you are doing?
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

Save a copy of the project file and just try to open it in Pro.
I know Pre El 3 files will open in Pro. The only problem that may occur is that Pro doesn't have an effect or transition that El used.

Premiere Pro CS6 supports MP4 H.264 video. You should be able to import that video file into a Premiere Pro project easily.

I don't know that you will be able to open the Premiere Elements 11 project file in Premiere Pro CS6. Premiere Pro CS6 was released prior to Premiere Elements 11 so it may not recognize the file format. But, if Premiere Elements 11 is still using an earlier prel format, it might work. I'd give it a try and see. If it recognizes the prel format, it will create a new prproj file from it. It will not modify the original prel file.

In the editor poll topic, you mentioned that you find the Premiere Pro CS6 interface cluttered. Did you know that you can customize the user interface and create a custom workspace? You might be able to set up a few custom workspaces that are less cluttered and more to your liking. See this tutorial: http://library.creativecow.net/articles/devis_andrew/Premiere-Pro-CS6-Basics_5/video-tutorial

Which is where a dual monitor set up can help enormously when using PPro. :-D

Thanks for all your replies. I don't know what I was doing wrong.

I finally saved the file again in Pre El 11, same file format after seeing here that it should work... and it did. PrePro sees it, can open it and everything works exactly as it should. I usually just lose my keys. Now it looks like I need to attach a string to my mind.

Anyway, now that I have it, I'll do my video editing - and create the project - then be able to add the lead in and music at the beginning after everything else is ready to go. Fortunately I still like the music. I've only heard it about 10,000 times now.

I watched that clip, Bob. I was aware that workspaces can be changed in PrePro. Here is the way I have it set up. I'm open to suggestions for something better. I have the list of effects on upper right. I select an effect, then pull up the history screen behind it, can see how to adjust the selected effect on the upper left.

Tools and audio are there, but out of the way. I've watched quite a few tutorials where someone will have the project file and the program sequence open at the same time, pretty much same size. I don't do that, but maybe I should. Not sure what the advantages would be.

thanks again,

Paz
