Effects Panel won't display audio effects

Now what have I gotten myself into?
Out of curiosity, I clicked the little tabs near the top of the effects panel that say sumpin-sumpin, 32, and YUV.
Suddenly I have no audio effects.

Those little tabs are filters. If you click one, the panel only shows the effects that fit the filter. To turn off a filter, click the tab again -- it's a toggle. When on, the filter icon is surrounded by a darker background.

What a great little solution. I'm back in action again now.
I think I'll have some cheese and crackers to go with the moscato now, all in the name of Bob.
