lines in mp4s

Postby Matthew Max » Thu Feb 02, 2012 8:50 pm

Exactly how can I export to avi in CS5.5 so that I can then maybe run it through Adobe Media Encoder?
If that is smart.

Otherwise, how do I solve this problem:

With Adobe Media Encoder, files with rapid movement are coming out with lines in in them.
I've been exporting to .mp4 with the h.264 setting at a default 720 x 480.
Project settings are: editing mode 1080i AVCHD 1440 anamorphic
Footage was shot with Sony XR 550 digital camcorder

sounds like you might need to output progressive instead of interlaced.

That's my thought, sounds like the output is interlaced.
It will look fine on a TV set, but not on a computer monitor.
Is there a progressive option?

No progressive option. No deinterlacing or interlacing option.

This is the answer I got from some of you when I had the same
problem with lines on wmv's in PE 9. Steve G. fixed that pretty
well by having me export to avi, then run the avi through
Windows Movie Maker.

This situation is different as far as what the solution will be.

All I need is a solution!

I finally got around to using your solution, John. Thanks for a great solution!!!!
That's going to help me over and over.

Will I always want to delace the mp4? Or just when I know there's rapid motion?

Here are my settings for HD. The tab behind the source panel has a deinterlace checkbox. Use 2 pass encoding.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Cheryl, thanks for the screenshot. But I don't see the page behind the source tab.
Do you suppose it has something to do with the settings that are chosen?

No, the tab is there behind the source no matter the setting. I am using PrPro CS3. What version do you have? I know they made a few changes to the Media Encoder with CS5, but I didn't think the Output tab was changed.

Chuck made me buy the latest version CS.5.5 several months ago. (I tried in vain to buy it in the Muvipix store, but the links were like a really scary maze that I never could figure out. I kept ending up in Europe and not finding the product. Hopefully going through the Adobe maze is not a-maze-ing anymore.)

Well, maybe what I'm seeing, Cheryl, is what you want me to see in the panel, except that the panel seems to be on the right side. I checked the stuff as you indicated and am running it through right now. I see you also selected 4.1, while I left the default at 3.1.

Cheryl, I just compared the previous mp4 with the new mp4 set according to your recommendation ( 2 pass, deinterlaced).
The previous file is nowhere near as good. It was tough footage, too, because I shot it on a wet day and the foliage was
blending colorfully, which is really hard to capture in a downgraded output of 512 kbps (or whatever those initials are).

The Output Panel with the deinterlace checkbox is in the upper left side. I just watched a video on CS5 and the panel is there.

My settings are based on screen shots I saw on Vimeo. They were in Italian. :) But I think I translated the settings okay.

You could run your own tests by encoding just 60 seconds of your timeline and tweak the settings. When I was running tests I kept records of my settings and the end file size. A 3 minute HD video = 115 MB approx.
