Export settings

Postby Peru » Sat Jan 01, 2022 3:13 pm

It took me a long time to change from 4:3 to 16:9.
It took me a long time to go from VHS to DVD.

So now I'm going from exporting projects to DVD to exporting projects to flash drive to play on TV.
My HDTVs don't support playing from flash drive, so I purchased a media player which works fine for that purpose.

What is the best export setting for that purpose?
Some projects are SD and some are HD. I plan to export the SD projects to SD (and let the TV upscale) and the HD projects to HD.
H265? H264? One of the Vimeo or YouTube settings?
Do I really need 2 pass?

I've tried different export settings and don't seem to see much difference between them.
I'm not concerned about export time or file size.

Bob,

What is the best export setting for that purpose?

depends on the source file. SD for SD and HD for HD.

H265? H264? One of the Vimeo or YouTube settings?

Right now H.264 is the most ubiquitous and played universally. H.265 requires extra decoding software.

Do I really need 2 pass?

Although it takes a bit longer 2 Pass VBR will give the best quality video.

For h.264 export I start with the Vimeo preset and change to 2 pass encoding.
