cleaner for windows 10

Postby hpharley90 » Fri Jul 24, 2020 5:47 pm

Hello all,I hope everyone is doing well. All good on this end.
When I had Windows XP Pro I used to use a registries cleaner and and some file cleaning. It was from Toni Arts and was called Easy Cleaner. I think I might have gotten info about it here at Muvipix. I remember it working I think. But it never caused a problem. And it was free.
Is there anything like that for Windows 10?
Thanks
Richard

CCleaner, a popular Windows app for system optimization and maintenance, has at some point been hijacked by hackers, potentially tricking millions of people into installing malware on their personal computers. ... After looking into the problem, they realized that CCleaner version 5.33 came together with dangerous malware.

The technical description was too complicated to understand. Simply put, the news is this: A hacker “breached CCleaner’s security to inject malware into the app and distribute it to millions of users”, as reported by The Verge.

The malware was built to steal users’ data. It did not actively harm your computer system. However, it did collect and encrypt info that might be used to do harm to your system in the future. The second payload Cisco Talos researchers discovered was a malware attack targeted against big technology organizations like Cisco, VMware, Samsung, and others.

That was in 2017 and only for a few releases which I never installed. That was shortly after it was purchased by the same company who produces Avast anti virus. I have not had any problems personally with CCleaner but I understand how it might not be a first choice any longer. They completely remodeled the user interface which I really do not like so may be looking to switch anyway. Anyone have any suggestions?

I got lucky, too, and didn't have any of those versions installed.
I only use the Cleaner and the Startup tool, so I don't care what the rest of the interface looks like.

I remember Steve posting about an application that does cleaning. I think it had "easy" in the name.

My first question would be are you actually sure you need a tool? I'm not sure they have been useful since the days of Windows XP. Win10's disk cleanup and storagesense both do a decent job and with SSDs boot time and application startup shouldn't be a problem. Windows has been automatically defragging mechanical disks for years (and knows that you shouldn't defrag an SSD).
