That didn't work for me; thanks Chuck; left a message on the ASUS Facebook page. We'll see if anything comes of that. I love ASUS mboards, but their site is not the greatest.

Buddy if you can you might try and see if you can plug into a different USB port. I have had that happen where it works on one port but not another.

Also Buddy, what is the brand and model of the card reader you purchased on Amazon? A link to it would be helpful.

Youse guys will never know how much the input is appreciated. The reader is an Anker. Did try both another computer and different USB port, but got the same no response on the card just the boot sound for the reader itself. The other computer is my wife's laptop. It's an ASUS also. We've had both for six or seven years. Both have been very solid systems for us. I want a new computer, but can't spring for it yet. Sigh

Thanks Buddy, the only real possibilities at this point are either the SD card is bad or it has not been partitioned or formatted. Plug in the card reader with the SD card inserted, open computer management and Disk Management, do you see the card? It will show up as a removable device. You can also open disk management and then plug in the card reader. What do you see in disk management when the card is inserted? Does it show up there? If it does we can partition and format from there and make it work.

Here is an image of disk management when I plug in my 256gb flash drive. Yours should look similar when you plug in the SD Card and reader, yours may have an error.

I have no problem bringing up the manager. However, no SDHC or SDXC will show; only the older 2 gig card will show. Ugh, this thing is really beating me up. You've been so helpful..I thank you. Guess I have to go to the manufacturers. Funny though the two I bought are different. The XD is an ONN and the HC is a SanDisk. Kinda' makes me think something has gone wrong in the system.
