adding a firewire solve my problem?

Postby jac » Mon Dec 18, 2017 12:13 pm

Hello Hope I get this right, never having posted before on a forum
I have a HP Envy Series 700 and a Sony handycam. Despite getting a USB connected to both they won`t `communicate` with each other. I have searched Sony sites, to no avail, for help
Would fitting a Firewire set up ( if it is possible ) be the answer?
Thanks :)

First you'll need to indicate which program you're trying to capture your video with. We support at least three different video editors on this forum.

You'll also need to indicate what model of Handycam you're using. Is this a miniDV or Digital8? Or is it a VHS or 8mm camcorder?

In any event, you won't be able to capture video over a USB connection with pretty much any video editor. But, once we know what kind of hardware we're dealing with, we may be able to direct you to solution.

I'm not sure that Cyberlink provides for capture over firewire but you might be able to use WinDV to capture.

PowerDirector certainly does provide for miniDV capture over a FireWire connection.

Peru's link is very helpful showing how easy it is to install a FireWire card. Although note that a lot of newer computers have express card sockets rather than traditional, so make sure you buy the right card for your machine.
