Flashing cursor after restore attempt

Postby Peru » Wed Feb 24, 2016 12:13 pm

Acer Aspire One
Windows XP Home

I tried to restore a backup using Acronis True Image Home made with an identical Acer Aspire One. I know it can be done because I've done it previously from one machine to the other.

I was stuck on "3 minutes left" for quite a while and then it must have tried to reboot. Now all I have is a flashing cursor.

I am able to get into the BIOS with F2, but that is all I can do.

Any suggestions, other than reinstalling the OS from scratch? There is no disc drive on this netbook.

I can't seem to get it into safe mode.
I've been playing with this, but not had any luck:

Not sure what you're trying to do with that program.

Could you go into a little more detail. What happens as you go through the boot sequence? Do you see the Windows splash screen or any evidence that it started to load Windows at all? Any messages?

Do you have a Windows System Repair disk?

I'm trying to restore the backup so that the second netbook is set up the same as the first.

No splash screen at all. Only a blinking cursor.

I don't have a disc and the netbooks don't have disc drives. I'm trying to make a bootable USB flash drive to use Acronis to restore the backup. Acronis was originally installed on both netbooks and I have been able to restore a backup from one netbook to the other in the past.

Didn't recognize that was a netbook. Makes sense now.

Does your netbook use uefi or legacy bios?

It is Windows XP.
Bios version V1.06
Intel V1585

How do I tell if it is UEFI or Legacy?

Well, after many attempts at creating a bootable USB flash drive with no success, I borrowed a Windows disc and an external cd/dvd drive and reinstalled the operating system.

I am up and running. :exc:
