Setting up the Microphone

Postby lauren » Thu Oct 17, 2013 9:20 pm

Steve, I saw the very helpful tutorial on setting up the mic for narration BUT I'm getting stymied at setting it up in the control panel. Everythingis checked correctly but NO little green bars jumping up and down indicating it's recording. I can HEAR the mike in my own head phones - but nothing on the computer.
And, of course, nothing recorded in Prem.

It's a USB microphone and Windows 7.

Thanks if anyone has any ideas.

I'm not sure what to tell you that the tutorial doesn't, Lauren.

Maybe if you'd post a screen capture of your Sound controls I can offer more specific help.

The microphone I used to create the tutorial was a USB microphone on a Windows 7 computer. So your configuration should be identical.

Unless Windows isn't recognizing your microphone over the USB connection. What model of microphone are you using?

Once we see your screen capture, we'll better be able to help.

Re: Setting up the Microphone and now a new problem with sou

I fixed it. thanks though.
It was a second mute on my computer sound that I missed.

But now I have a different problem in premier.
Not sure if I should post it with a different heading.
I started editing a movie. Everything was fine. then today I did a bunch of narration - just narration to be edited in. Started to edit and now there is no sound with playback on the timeline. There was for the narration. But not from the other clips. And the clips play fine on thier own. Off of the time line. I just can't playback on the timeline. I checked control panel/premier preferences/the on and off on the Audio left side of the timeline and rendering. Out of ideas.

Have you still got the microphone attached to your computer? My movie's audio won't play until I unplug the mike.

Check your sound playback settings, sometimes connecting a mic will mute other audio options.

Thanks, did that too.

I just opened a "New Project" and reimported all the media and it works.

You also might check to see if you had a single track muted in the timeline. It is located to the left of the audio track. If you cannot see a speaker icon then it is muted.
