Can't update video card driver.

Postby Gerlinde » Wed Nov 02, 2011 11:32 am

I am not able to update the video card driver of my note book ( see my signature). There is a newer version for my card available at the AMD site. When I try to install it, I get this message:

Of course Sony does not have anything posted for my notebook. It came originally with Vista installed. I did a clean install of Windows 7 as it came out and switched to a 64-bit system. I did reinstall the Sony shared library to get all the special keys working and also the different card readers etc.

Does anyone have a solution to get around this message?

It could be a Sony thing, Gerlinde. VAIOs are notorious for modifying their drivers.

Try going to the Sony site, looking up your computer model and checking to see if they've got updates there.

Depending on the age of the computer they may not be creating a 64bit driver for that graphics adapter. Same thing has happened to some of the Dell machines with onboard graphics, Dell is not updating the drivers to work with Windows 7 64 bit. Just means it's time for a new laptop :)

My notebook is only 3 years old, I know that is old by technology standards. But unfortunately, I can't buy a new notebook at this time or any time soon in the future. :(

As I said in my original post, I checked with Sony and I can not find a 64-bit driver posted there or any driver at all.
I removed everything Sony from this notebook as I converted to Windows 7 64-bit. At that time, Sony did not provide any updated software, even the notebook was only 1 year old.

Now Sony provides Windows 7 64-bit software for this notebook, but I don't want to have all the bloat back I got rid off.

I don't know if installing the provided "Shared Library" would contain the video card driver.
