PE11 on iMac will not Capture from HV30

PE11 on iMac will not Capture from HV30

Postby Michael Chandler » Thu Nov 15, 2012 5:40 am

HV30 connects to PE11 by firewire O.K.
Capture button start/stops HV30 but will not capture and does not display movie in capture window.
Opening iMovie with the same set up captures immediately.
Using "Guide to Adobe Premiere Elements 11" color edition by Steve, I have tested each combination of New Project set ups without success.
I hope that with your help I can find a solution. I really would prefer PE11 running Snow Leopard.

Best Regards

Mike

I know of no reason this will not work, Michael. Capture works perfectly on my Mac with Mountain Lion.

When capturing from HDV, you may not be able to see a preview of your capture as it's happening. However, it still should capture your video. Are you sure it does not?

Many thanks for your reply Steve

I have searched each of the New Project Folders that I created in my tests and put them all into the Organizer to see if any one of them would show up as Media - without success.

Most show No Media
Some bring up error messages, for example, "this type of file is not supported ...". "the selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the codec" "cannot continue with your selection it requires at least one connected file".

Your good news is that PE11 works O.K. on your iMac.

Would you recommend that I uninstall and download afresh?

Best Regards

Mike

I don't think reinstalling will make a difference -- though you never know.

Macs are great machines that, most of the time, "just work." The biggest challenge with them, however, is that when they don't work, it's nearly impossible to figure out why.

So if you are capturing HDV with Premiere Elements and it's producing .m2t files that don't load into a project, I'm just not sure what to suggest. Sorry.

What happens when you switch your camcorder to DV Lock and you capture your video as standard definition DV? Does that work?

And, when you capture HDV with iMovie, what type of file is created?

Hi Steve

Some good news

I have got Capture working.

I downloaded a trial PE11 to my MacBookPro (Snow Leopard) to prove if it would work afresh - it did.

So I reinstalled on my iMac - Capture works O.K.

Now I can continue on with your Guide book and training movies.

Thanks for your support Steve.
Best regards
Mike
