scuba Diving

Postby bgsnmky » Wed Dec 19, 2007 12:55 pm

I did a search and didn't find anything so I hope I just didn't miss it.

I have a slideshow that I am incorporating into video using PS5 and PE3.

The slidshow has some stills and some movie clips from scuba diving. So far, yoiu will have stills, then some video clips - which has the water/scuba sound etc. (I like my video/stills in order to tell a story etc).

It sounds weird tho to have silence and then the scuba sound. So I thought of two options and wanted to see if anyone has any other options / suggestions for sounds and if not, how I can do mine.

Option 1: Use the bubbly scuba diving sound:
- Can I take the sound from one of the video clips (or a string of them which I have about 4 in a row at one point) and cut just the sound out - and loop the same sound into the whole slideshow in PS5. If I need to use PE3 to cut the sound I could do that and then put it in PS5 for the whole slideshow.
- or does someone know where I can get a clip of this sound.

Option 2: don't have the scuba sound at all....just get a different music/sound and have that be for the whole slideshow and mute out the sound on the video clips (assuming there is a way to do that).

What do you guys think?

Option 2: Don't use the scuba sound

I'd opt for both. The natural sound loop seems like a natural -- but you really do need some music in there too.

Finding music that both set the tone and yet wasn't too obvious could be a challenge though. You'd want something somber and mellow, like the gentle movement of the water. Especially if you're relatively deep.

For shallow diving, with lots of fish and undersea movement, something livelier and more tropical.

And i wish I had a specific suggestion but, since I let the Little Mermaid's "Under the Sea" sneak into my brain, I can't think of anything else! Sorry.

That is funny....

great idea. And my family knows I am a big disney fan....so that would be great if I had it without the words.

You can just right click on the link and select 'Save Target As' or 'Save Link As', it will download to your computer.
It is an mp3 file which should work just fine in Premiere Elements.

If you were down in the tropics for scuba diving, check out the Carnival Steel Drum version of Under the Sea and some of their other songs on itunes. I used that version for a video/sideshow for our trip to St Thomas last winter. Did exactly what Steve was talking about. Just make sure you keep the music volume low enough to hear the sound of the water, etc.

Ah, St. Thomas. I wish I were there right now. And yeah, the song will be stuck in my head again too. \:D/

doreen - I bought one of the songs (which there are MULTIPLE) off of ITunes. But it is in Mp4 format and psel5 does not support that.

Do you know of a free converter or something that we can use.

With iTunes music, you need to do two things: Bust the digital rights management and then convert the file. This link shows you a couple of ways to do this:
http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bbe18d3

iTunes keeps putting tighter and tighter DRM on their songs so, if you get stuck, here's what works for me.

Download the latest FairUse software from the hymn_project link in the link I just posted. You need the latest version to bust the latest Apple DRM.

FairUse can be run for all of your iTunes library or on one song at a time.

Once you've busted the DRM, right-click on the song in iTunes and select Convert to MP3.

95% of the time, that MP3 will work fine in your project. When it doesn't, you may need to convert that to a WAV using a free program like Audacity.

The only thing I do to convert itunes music is to burn a CD. Once it's burned, a list of the songs will show up as a playlist in itunes. Select each song, click on advanced and select convert selection to mp3. I haven't had any problems thus far with any DRM doing it this way.

Converting to MP3 will usually remove any DRM, actually converting to any other format will do that.

Yes, but, in my iTunes, until you've busted the DRM, you can't convert to an MP3. (iTunes won't even allow me to burn some of my songs to a CD!)

That is why I haven't allowed Itunes to upgrade to the newer versions. Right now I usually burn to a CD and then rip back with windows media player. That makes it usable by Premiere.

of course, lately I use Amazon for downloads so I don't have to convert. Same pricce, sometimes 10 cents less. I still use itunes for searching. they have the best library and I like their lists and essentials. But then I download from AMazon. Too bad itunes couldn't make it easier I would just buy from there.
Happy Editing,

Beth
