digital 8 for conversion purposes

Postby happy2bapappy » Sun Feb 25, 2007 6:49 pm

I have an opportunity to buy a used Sony Handycam DCR TRV320, a digital 8.

I'm interested in expanding my fledgling business of converting analog to digital. Currently, I just do VHS to DVD.

The question is, would this be a good model to get to use for conversions? Would it handle analog 8mm as well?
What would be a good model to keep an eye out for?

As I said earlier, my business is just in it's infancy. I'd like to be able to expand my services. I've done enough business to invest in some new hardware. Naturally though, i'd like to get the most bang out of my buck.

Any help or advice would be very appreciated.

8mm and Hi8 tapes can be used in the TRV320 according to this article at camcorderinfo.com
http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/so ... review.htm

That might be the same model that Steve Grisetti uses. It would be very good for converting the analog 8mm and Hi8 tapes.

I have a similar but older unit - TRV240. It seems to handle Hi8 and Digital8 just fine.

I also used its analog inputs from my VHS deck, but wasn't quite satisfied with the results, so I ended up getting an external Pyro box. But at that time I was still using (uggh) Studio, and that may have been the problem, not the camcorder.

My only issue with Digital8 (as I expressed in the PE2 forum) was that I was concerned that I was continuing to record on a format that just wasn't very popular. But so far I am too cheap to buy a miniDV unit, so I continue to shoot Digital 8

Alas, the price went a bit too steep for me, so not digital 8 for me for now

However thanks again for the link, now I know where to get my hands on one whenever it suits me. After reading the material, it does sound like good work horse to get.

Eh!
