Need monopod/mounting product advice

Postby boogieted » Tue Mar 09, 2010 3:16 pm

I am looking for some type of short monopod that can be mounted to a flat wooden surface. I've never seen anything like this before, and don't really know what to call it. The closest thing i have found is the Vanguard VS-92 shown here http://www.vanguardworld.com/index.php/en/products/photo-video/detail-1-4-Table+pod-136.html

Although I do not want a clamp-mounted device. Neither do I want-suction-cup. I would like to have a flange at the bottom of the monopod that can be screwed-down onto a flat wooden surface. In case your're wondering, this is for the upper-deck of a church gymnasium. we have a walking track above the gym floor. The railing has a flat 6" top. When we want to film events, rather than setting up a tripod obstructing the walking track, i'd rather have a mounted device affixed permanently out of the way.

I would be grateful if anyone has a suggestion on a product. I apologize if I have posted to the incorrect forum.

Thanks!

I was going to suggest security camera mounts too. A lot of those are flange mounted and come in a variety of sizes and mounting options. They generally are for smaller light weight cameras. If your camera is heavy, you'll need something more substantial.

Thanks guys. it looks like the panavise.com web site might be my best bet. But i am still open to other suggestions if you come up with any. This is for a small consumer-level camcorder by the way.. Thanks

Check out Clover Electronics camera mounts also. Here are a couple sold by sears. The first is out of stock, but the other is in stock. The price is pretty good too.

I regularly use a monopod secured to a railings to avoid tripping over the tripod legs. I extend the monopod to reach from the lower horizontal rail to the height I want to set the camera. I then secure the monopod with bungee cords at the top and bottom horizontal rails and I use a packer piece to adjust the vertical alignment for the different dimensions of the top and bottom rail.

Cost: a bag of bungee cords in the local supermarket and a ‘off cut’ from the tool shed.

Definitey not high tech, but it works!
