Remote control for HV 30

Postby mark hansen » Sun Feb 14, 2010 10:59 am

I've poke around a bit and didn't hit anything and wondered if anyone has heard of a remote control (not the ones that came with it) for a HV30. I'm thinking about something Sony does with something that fits on a tripod handle and can handel the zoom, start record, stop record etc. I tried using the remote that came with it, but it seems to need to be in front of the camera, not behind. It would be helpful to be able to control it from behing too.

Does Cannon do that for their HV cameras?

I am not 100% certain but I think the Canon HV range do not support a Lanc controller (Local Application Control Bus System) facility and so you can not use the Lanc contol which comes on some tripods.

That is a more professional camera feature. Canon XHA1 does have that capability, but not the HV models.
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

That's the main reason that I bought a Sony over a Canon.

I'm thinking about getting a sony as a second camera for that reason. Also, last I looked they have a neat case that's in my price range that I can use underwater (less than 15 feet) and I can use it for paint balling as a protector. We plan to get season passes at a local water park so the water proof case seem like I could get some fun shots.

the ones I've seen on line all seem to be a hard drive or other than DV tape format. I have read here those are hard to edit.

How does the hard drive thing work. I assume you can just cable the file over to your PC for editing. Does it keep the same format (hence hard to edit.)

What happens if you just play the file from the hard drive (can you do that?) Does it capture in a format you can easier to edit, like it it was coming from a DV tape? Do those camera have a DV out?

I'm only looking the consumer level camers.
any insught would help. I don't think I need HD video - I haven't used it yet on my HV 30.

Some don't like refurbished, but I found this, for about what I paid new for mine a little while back:

Also, B&H (link through Muvipix) sometimes has used equipment.
