For my human portraiture stills, because I can control BOTH the aperture and the shutter speed, I have no problem creating low-key still images. My dilemma is with regard to my videos.
When making a video, my current technique for keeping my model low-key, after manually setting my HV30's aperture to wide open at 1.8 (for easier manual focusing), is to adjust a shaded lamp that shows in the frame to an intermediate, as opposed to the lowest, intensity. The increased brightness forces the HV30 to increase its shutter speed, and the result is that my subject stays low-key AND, as a bonus, I get no motion artifacts like I might if I was shooting at a lower shutter speed.
Although my results with this method are quite pleasing, the shaded lamp in the background of my videos is a bit brighter than I would like, so my question is this: Is anyone aware of a method for controlling BOTH the aperture and the shutter speed manually with the HV30, so that I could BOTH increase the shutter speed AND keep the aperture wide open without being required to brighten the lamp in the background?
