Then there's the Twilight Zone episode where everyone was digitally connected to the network through a device that interfaced with their brains. No problem accessing information then, until the virus knocked out all the interfaces and they all realized they didn't know how to read anymore because they never had to learn...

The lives of 6 billion people recorded second-by-second and infinitely searchable and replayable? It's the ultimate reality show! We'll all have to quit our jobs so we can watch as much as possible!

Of course, we'll have to have our brains datalinked so we can talk to each other about what our favorite characters just did, and we'll have to be hooked up to IV for food and water... but how will we earn our keep?

I suppose we could take the electricity generated by our bodies and feed it back into the power grid to keep the whole thing going...

But what would we call this new way of life? The "Cycle"? The "Network"? The "Matrix"...

Oh, never mind. I don't care what Keanu Reeves is doing every second of the day. I'll take a nice qiuet cave in the woods.

Let's hope they don't try to follow in the footsteps of the 1980's film, which I personally didn't care for. I grew up with the comics and the old serials kept making the rounds in the local theaters for a while. Those pretty much set the tone for me. I confess, I even went to a costume party in college once as Ming the Merciless. It could be a very good series if they approach it in the right way.

or not, given the history of the SciFi channel - either the brainless monster of the week or the usual social patter in a futuristic setting - both junk in my view.
