Audio MP3 to player questions

Postby AVITRY » Wed Mar 16, 2011 10:19 am

Well, once again, I'm lost. :) The easiest thing to do, besides hoping someone can recommend a software that simply works, is to copy and paste a post I made to the winamp forum. Being pretty sure they would never suggest a different software, I thought perhaps you all may have already suffered as I am now, and can suggest a more generic solution.

Anyway rather than rewrite the issue, below is a copy and paste ...

Hi all. I must admit, I'm so lost I hardly know how to ask a question.

I've prided myself at being very knowledgeable with regards to computer file structure and hierarchy. That is until I tried to figure out how to add mp3s to my daughters Sansa. ( we have a C250 and a Fuze) I feel like I've never copied a file, created a folder, or navigated a computer's file structure before.

I just learned about Winamp and before I buy the full version I wanted to try to accomplish file transfers with the free version. I have tried a few others with no luck.

Windows Media player keeps asking to "sync" the sansa with my computer. I don't want to sync anything, just add a few mp3 files. The Sansa has about 300 songs on it and my computer only has 14 songs we ripped from a CD for my daughter. I sure don't want to sync these two devices. I don't want 300 of her songs on my PC and I don't want her to loose all her songs and leave her with 14 songs.

The word sync makes no sense to me as I think about file structure. I simply want to copy a few files to the Sansa.

I purchased Media Monkey which I can (somehow) end up figuring out how to transfer a few songs, BUT ... even after purchasing that program, it won't play the songs.

I downloaded Magix mp3 deluxe, and it gives a message at least saying it doesn't support MTP playback. <sigh> Whatever that is .... So ... I found Winamp .....

Now, it seems winamp will playback our sansa, HOORAY!, but I FOR THE LIFE OF ME ... can't see any way to copy files to the player. Why this has to be so complicated, I just don't understand.

Please... If someone has the patients to explain what is happening here as if I were 12 years old ... LOL .. cause that's how I feel. I've spent hours and even some money I would have rather not spent, trying to understand what the heck is going on here.

This all seems FAR more complicated than it needs to be. If there is a simpler way to transfer these songs and still have them become a part of the rest of what is on the player, sorted by artist, title, etc .... I'm game to try any program if needed.

Also, I was told in the past that buying a generic type mp3 player such as a Sansa gave me far more latitude in terms of downloading. I was told IPods are proprietary and can only take songs from ITunes or something. Arggggh I'm so confused.

thank you in advance for any help or insight into this departure from the simple windows file/folder structure and file transfers I'm used to.

Joe, I can truly appreciate your frustration but sadly cannot help mainly because I do not have a Sansa so cannot advise on that specific point. Sorry; hope you are soon sorted out. :???:

You could try posting your query here:-

Well, it's not quite as complicated as these brand name manufacturers like to make it sound, Joe.

No, iPods don't work exclusively with iTunes music. However, they do use iTunes to sync and back up your iPod with your apps and iTunes library. And that library can include iTunes music as well as other music you've loaded onto your computer. That's up to you.

The biggest advantage to using iTunes music with an iPod is that, in the event of a catastrophe (like a crashed hard drive or a broken iPod), you'll be able to re-download all of your previously purchased iTunes music at no charge and automatically.

Windows Media Player is, I believe, doing the same basic thing. Don't worry -- it won't confuse the music on your Sansa player with the music on your computer. It's just making sure that, if anything happens to your MP3 player, you have access to your old MP3's library again.

The manual might be of some help

You should only have to copy the MP3 files to the SD card, it should show up as an external drive.
Make sure it has a drive letter and shows up in Explorer.

I guess I have to find a program to first edit the metatag of each mp3 so that once I drag and drop it into the sansa from my PC, the mp3 will be shown in all the correct areas on the sansa, i.e. genre, artist ... and so on.

I think... :)

You should be able to edit via "Right click" on the file, select "Properties" and edit the fields on the Summary tab, click Apply. (Windows XP)

Funny you should mention that .... :-D

So, I'm capturing some streaming music, after I finish I save as mp3 ( I already installed the lame encoder) and sometimes, only sometimes mind you :) the little pop up window appears and asks for this info. Other times, nothing.

I haven't played with searching for this manually within the program yet, but I found it interesting that Audacity didn't display this window after every capture.

Also, I did see a choice to pick between two types of mp3 one is more compatible, and one is more flexible.
( reminds me of marrage sort of ... I chose the more compatible) ](*,) ::lol::

If you don't open a new Audacity window it will use the ID3 info from the last time you saved it.
Then it uses the same song name, artist, etc. over and over again.

You have to do; File/New for every recording or you won't get the ID3 info pop up box.

You should watch my Audacity tutorial ;)

And as noted above by RF, you can edit the ID3 info in Windows Explorer under file properties.
I think you may have to click on Advanced to see everything. You can also change the info in iTunes.
