3gp Preset

Postby Bobby » Sat Jun 02, 2012 12:14 pm

I decided to video something using my phone (ugggh) but now need to deal with it. The filetype is .3gp and it looks like it is 800x480. 3gp could be a container for MPEG4, but don't see any presets that might match. Any idea what preset to use for it?

Edit: Well, I see part of my problem. I read the manual (!) and went into the camcorder app settings and found it was set for widescreen 800x480 so I am assuming it is SD widescreen. I could have set it for HD 720p which would be 1280x720. My mistake...

What version of Premiere Elements Bobby? I haven't had any problem editing my 3gp video from my phone using the Mobile Device preset in versions 9 and 10.

10, which I am just getting familiar with. I don't see a correct mobile device preset. Main items are AVCHD, DSLR, DV, Fliip, Hard Disk, HDV.

It's been awhile since I have had a phone that records in 3gp format but tested with some old clips.
I used the "Hard Disc, Flash Memory Camcorders" presets, there are presets for widescreen and standard.
This worked fine although the video from my old camera was 176 x 144 and automatically was scaled to frame size.
That looked really bad so I unchecked scale to frame size on the clip and although it was very small it looked and played as expected. Not the best quality, and definitely not what the new cell phones can produce. Sounds like yours has a very reasonable size and should look great on a DVD :)

3gp is an Apple MOV type format for cell phones I guess, at least that's what I've read online.

Thanks Chuck. Yep, the new stuff is getting better, cells, pads, etc. My cell has 8mp, true focus and zoom, and a dual flash. Does an acceptable job in a pinch.
