Audacity & spyware

Postby GerryB » Tue Jul 06, 2021 4:32 am

Good morning all,

I have come across this story line again and I'm placing it here in case anyone has any further info or thoughts.

I like Audacity but if it is vacuuming up my data then I will be uninstalling it. I'm waiting to see how the story develops, but not for too long. I won't be installing any updates in the meantime.

I saw this last night too Gerry. Disappointing out of them. I hope they rethink this. Too many companies seem to think this is acceptable.

Update.....

This is from the BBC Technology web page.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-57721967

You may be able to find it on BBC.com also.

Just in case I add this screen grab of portion.
1 - they may share data with their HQ in Russia
2 - they don't want to monetise the product
3 - they want to provide updates every few weeks.

Without bringing in money how will they afford (3) above?

FWIW the version of Audacity that I have installed on my PC is 2.4.2. I think that the current version is 3.0.2.

Needless to say, in the light of the above, I won't be updating. :(
