Delay when selecting button

Postby Peru » Wed Jul 22, 2009 1:20 pm

Exported Mpeg from Pre El 3 into DVDAS. Created main and scene selection menus.

When I watch the video on a disc in Windows Media Player or the DVDAS preview when in the project, there is minimal delay between clicking on a button and the selected clip playing.

When watched on a dvd player connected to my TV there is about a two to three second delay between clicking on a button and the selected clip playing. I've tried it on two different DVD player/TV combinations. :pull:

If I create a menu in Pre El 3 and burn it to a folder and then to disc, I do not get the delay on the TV.

Anybody have any ideas what may be happening and how to fix this issue? :-k

Peru, I have not seen this at all.

Guessing, but I would think that the issue could either be:

1) data errors on the DVD being recovered, which takes some time ..or..

2) some compatibility issue between the DVD creation or type.

Try creating a project with menus generated by PRE direction and see if there is a difference.

Are you writing directly to DVD or hard disk and then Nero, etc.?

If you mean create a menu within Premiere Elements, and burn to a folder, then burn the Video_TS folder to a DVD, then yes I did that and the menus worked fine.

I burned to a folder with DVDAS and then used Imgburn to burn the Video_TS folder to a DVD-RW (the same disc used to burn from a folder from Premiere Elements).

Yes, that is what I meant - had a long day messing around with stupid APC UPS software ](*,)

If I understand you correctly, you can view the DVD using WMP and it works OK. When you take the same DVD to your TV player, you have the delays - rite?

I am at a loss on this one, so I would suggest you try to make some slight changes and see what happens. How did you create the buttons? Which buttons - main menu buttons, scene buttons, paging buttons (return to Main Menu, etc.)? Do the buttons have video background - try removing that.

Try using a DVD-R or +R instead of an RW.

Etc.

All buttons.

No, just stills.
Try using a DVD-R or +R instead of an RW.
Used DVD-R (Ty Premium) and the same.

Etc.[/quote]
I've also tried using DV-AVIs from Pre El 3, instead of exporting MPEGs.
I guess I'll try removing the motion background on the menu pages next. This is really bugging me, as the project is ready to be put to bed, otherwise. ](*,)

Sorry, Peru - keep plugging. Did you try the same DVD in another player?

All I can tell you is that I use custom motion backgrounds and sound extensively with no problem. I generally tend to create a 30 sec. excerpt from the project in question and use that as the menu backgrounds. And I have tried both MPEG and AVI backgrounds with no difference.

Keep us posted...

Yes, and another TV, too.

Keep us posted...

I've submitted a question to Sony Support. We'll see what happens. :-

OK - let's try this.

Create a brand new project with new input and see if you can re-create the problem. If it does not occur with a brand new project, then I suspect some setting somehow in the failing project.Worth a try - at least that may focus our efforts.

It's worth a try. I'll do it when I get to the computer with DVDAS on it.

Peru,

Delays like this often happen, when the laser has to go to the next .VOB. By any chance, do you have an intricate navigation plan, and maybe multiple Scene_Selection Menus? One only gets 1GB for all Menus, and that first .VOB can be filled up with things like Motion Background Menus, Button Transitions and Motion Thumbnails in Buttons. Could this be an issue?

Just thinking here,

Hunt

One main menu with three buttons: Introduction, Scene, Play All
and one scene menu: 1st Chapter, 2nd Chapter, return to main menu.

An update:

DVDAS support found that there was "no problem".

I tried another stand alone dvd player and it had a bit less of a delay, so perhaps the issue is that there is no issue, and that is just the way it will be...

No problem in that they couldn't reproduce the problem, or no problem in that they said the amount of delay being seen was "acceptable" or ...?
