Newer Hub Printable DVDs

Postby Bobby » Wed Mar 18, 2009 7:15 pm

I had been using a 100 count stack of TY 8x hub printable DVDs and recently my supply ran out. I ordered some TY Watershield, but decided not to use them (see other threads) (luckily I only bought 50) so I bought a new stack of the TY hub printables. The latest version is 16x (if your recorder can handle that) and have the same printable geometry, but I did notice a difference.

The hub in a DVD is usually clear. The 8x DVDs had the printable surface on one side of the DVD, but the other side was still uncovered. This resulted in a faint but noticeable change in color of the white area and sometimes after printing. The newer blanks have something on the bottom hub side (i.e. are opaque), so that the printable side looks consistent right to the hole.

Well, not quite exactly to the hole - there is still a small transparent area, but you know what I mean.
