Does Nero 8 Essentials Offer Any Special Feature?

Postby George Tyndall » Thu Feb 19, 2009 10:52 am

Image

I purchased this unit (pictured) for the purpose of being capable of 1) burning LightScribe labels at the same time that I am burning a DVD with my LG and 2) burning music CDs.

The unit, which is plug-and-play and which I've already tested with my existing software, comes with Nero 8 Essentials software, however, I am unaware of any reason to install it.

Nero 8 Essentials includes:

Nero StartSmart 8 Essentials
Nero Express8 Essentials
ShowTime4 Essentials
Nero CoverDesigner 3 Essentials
Nero Toolkit
Nero PhotoShowExpress5
Nero Control Center

Given that the unit already does what I want it to do with my existing software, is anyone aware of an important feature that might make me consider installing this bundle?

Most of the good features of NERO are not available in the Essentials package. And if they are they are just available for 30 days after which you have to buy the plug-ins. Basically the only free bit is the NERO Express burning software, again, which is not as full featured as NERO Burning ROM.

I agree with Paul, I had Nero pre-installed on one of my Dells and removed it after a few months.

What burning software would anyone recommend other than nero for a vista machine? It worked well with xp but not very good with vista so far.

What are you burning with the software George? Are you talking about Data CDs and DVDs, burning video DVDs or both?
Where you using Nero previously?

Hi Chuck,

I was using Nero 6 which came with my DVD burner a few years ago. Just burning DVD's made in PE 4 by burning them to a folder first. I bought a new computer with Vista and Nero 6 won't load and Nero 8 essentials doesn't seem to have a DVD burning option. All I ever really used was Nero Express 6 which was fine. I also tried the compatibility mode with Vista and it didn't do anything. So I have a project in a folder waiting to be burned to a DVD. I'm ready to get Nero 9 but not so sure after reading a couple of prior posts. All I need is DVD burning software compatible with Vista for PE 7. Thanks.

Many of the members here use ImgBurn, it works very well and it is free.
Plus there are plenty of users here to help if you come across any problems :)
