NERO & Lightscribe

Postby momoffduty » Tue Nov 27, 2012 4:20 pm

Now that I have migrated to Windows 7 and updated my driver for the HP lightscibe burner, the only thing missing is NERO which came with the burner. The NERO is v7 and old. I used NERO to etch my lightscribe image. I did download the free basic label one from Lightscribe, but can't add an image or make adjustments. Am I stuck buying the latest NERO version? All I need is the essentials package. I used NERO for burning CDs & Data DVDs too.

SureThing is a great lightscribe label creator, reasonably priced as well, I highly recommend it :TU:

Cost is: $34.95 and it does more than just Lightscribe too :)

I have Nero 9 Essentials. When you click on the "Create Disc Label or Cover" button it just asks you to upgrade to the full version. Was this capability included in V7? I'd be glad to send you V9 but it doesn't look like it will do what you want. :(

Although I don't use the lightscribe feature, but print with ink, this is reasonable and can do the job:

Thanks guys. The one for $21 looks good for the price. I only need it for the lightscribe. For the other burns I justnoticed that CyberLink Suite came with my burner. For printing discs I am using Print CD.

Dave, it is called Nero Start Smart Essentials and under the Extras there is a Print Light Scribe Label icon. But, I usually click on the Make Label or Cover and inside is the LS option. Forgot now, but the first LS Icon on the home menu didn't work correctly. The v7 came with a bunch of other stuff that I never used.

I did download the free basic label one from Lightscribe, but can't add an image or make adjustments.

Lightscribe provides two free labeling programs. Simple Labeler and Template Labeler. It sounds like you got the simple labeler. The Lightscribe Template Labeler has three templates at the bottom of the template list that allow you to add images. Once added, you can make basic adjustments. Edit: actually a lot of the templates allow adding images in predetermined positions matching locations in the background.

That's the one I started with and found it too basic, ended up with SureThing labeler instead.
I think the Acoustica program is also a good one :)

Yes, that's the utility that I have in version 9. I've been over and over it and I don't find anything about Extras or LightScribe. If V7 has the feature that you need Is there some particular reason that you can't use it, even though it's an older version?

Thanks Bob, I'll check that out. I did download the simple or basic one.

Dave, the v7 disc is not Windows 7 compatible. But, thanks for checking and the offer.

Ah, okay. Unless I'm really out of it tonght (which I could be), I really don't think that feature is in the V9 Smart Start Essentials. Still be glad to send you a copy if you'd like to have it.

Dave, thanks for checking again. I'll use the free one Bob posted for now. The one Peru linked to looks like a very good option for the $. I make my printed ones in PS and save as a jpeg and then Print CD. It may be worth having everything in one application, the LS & printable.

Late to this thread (time difference) but I would like to give a +1 to Acoustica CD Label maker which I use for creating all of my DVD lables - DVDs themselves, case inserts, Lightscribe - which I use very rarely but they have an extensive, free, downloadable template library.

Good to know John, thanks for the recommendation. My discs whether they are LS or printable are designed in PS to match the Menu, Titles, and inserts. Some projects I use templates for the discs or may just need text info and it doesn't need to match.

Hmmm. Should have made myself a little more clear methinks. :(

I, too, create my artwork/labels/inserts etc. in Photoshop. I just use Acoustica to print said labels, etc.

I used to use free software that came with my Canon printer but found the Acoustica product much better and for not a lot of money.
