1 person, 2 cameras

Postby cdeemer » Sat Aug 14, 2010 6:29 pm

For my "micro movies" I've found a way to shoot with two cameras at once all by my lonesome. I got this gizmo that fits over a pop bottle cap and has a camera mount. If the bottle is full of pop or water, it is very stable. I then set it wherever I want and use my 2nd camera hand held or with my monopod ... then I can edit as if I had 2 camera men shooting the scene. 1 man, 2 cameras! I love it.

I bought the gizmo at Amazon for less than ten bucks. p.s. I use minicams and this might be less stable with a bigger, heavier camera. Or use a bigger bottle.

It's always cool when the cast outnumbers the crew.

I'd love to see it too, Charles!

Here's a link to the gizmo.

Here is an example of how I use it. I'm working on a documentary about a Portland film producer of the 1970s and 1980s -- the guy, for example, who let a teenage Gus Van Sant use his professional cameras (16mm Eclair) and editing equipment to make Gus'' early shorts and first feature. The bottle tripod is on a shelf behind me.
