Export For Proofreading

Postby Bobby » Wed Jul 04, 2007 4:12 pm

Hi all - hope you all are having a nice 4th.

Anyhow, I am working on a family history project that I want various family members to be able to view on my website for proofing purposes.

I would think exporting a downloadable MOV or WMV file would be good, or is there a better streaming method? Also, what export parameters would I use for "acceptable" proofing quality yet that don't take a really long time to export. Note: it is widescreen!

Just asking because I am sure there is somebody out there who has gone through this.

Thanks!

Happy 4th

Have you thought about Flash? Streams really nice and in my experience it takes less time than the MOV file.

OK - I can generate a .FLV file, but what do I do with it? Just putting it on my website doesn't trigger a program to display it. I am pretty sure I have the flash plugin running, so there must be something else I have to do.

You need to have a player to embed in the page. This is a free one, although I haven't tried it.

You can always upload it to the Gallery.

Thanks, Ron - I guess I could always do that. Is there a size restriction?

I went onto the Adobe website, and found a page on creating a pop-up player using various techniques. I have to admit admit that I put off learning javascript and perhaps now is the time to do so.

Thank you, Ed - between this and the Adobe page I should be able to get it going!
